Alexander Turkewitsch, BASc., MASC., P.Eng. - Chair Greenhouse/Vertical Farm Engineering

Alex has been the President & Greenhouse Consultant for Greenhouse Engineering since March 1999, where he plans, specifies, designs and implements commercial, institutional and research greenhouse facilities.

Alex's designs of greenhouse facilities range from plant production ranges, garden centers, shade houses and lath houses; to compartmentalized research greenhouses, conservatories and custom structures. Alex also performs inspections, project management and engineering evaluations.

Alex's international client list includes architects, greenhouse operators, manufacturers, institutions, governments, research organizations, universities, and bio-technology companies. Locally, Alex was the Project Manager/Construction Manager of the Leslie Dan Faculty of Pharmacy & Woodsworth College, at the University of Toronto.

Alex was the Special Projects Technical Support Engineer for North America with Nexus Corporation and National Greenhouse Company from 1996 to 1999, where he was responsible for designing services for commercial, institutional and research greenhouse facilities, as well as designing the structural, mechanical, electrical and control systems, as they related to greenhouse facilities.

Alex was also the Chief Engineer for Frank Jonkman & Sons Ltd from 1991 to 1996, and Senior Engineer for Growers Technical Services Ltd from 1980 to 1990.

Alex obtained his B.A.Sc, Systems Design Engineering, and M.A.Sc, Mechanical Engineering from the University of Waterloo in 1977 and 1980, respectively.

ZhengYoubin Zheng PhD, MPhil, MAg, BAg. - Associate Professor/Environmental Horticulture Chair

Dr. Zheng is the Environmental Horticulture Chair of the University of Guelph and Vineland Research and Innovation Centre. The objectives of his research program are to develop technologies for producing plant materials in a sustainable and environmentally friendly manner; to develop and use horticultural technologies for improving our environment and to help build a sustainable society. His research program serves ornamental and vegetable greenhouse industries, nursery and landscape industries, the green roof industry, and the urban agriculture sector.

His expertise includes plant nutrition and fertilization, irrigation and water treatment, soils and growing substrates, plants-environment interaction, lighting, CO2 enrichment, and other greenhouse and nursery production-related technologies. Dr. Zheng has more than 20 years' horticulture research experience at universities and research institutes in Canada, Japan, Britain and China.
